LASHES: Thank You For The Love

Updated: Jan 29, 2019

I first listened to this song whilst driving on the M1. I realised that this was not the best idea as soon as I started vigorously moving my head up and down, and the car coming up behind me beeped rather loud. My advice is: drive safely, wear a seatbelt and maybe don’t listen to music that makes you want to jump around. Especially, ‘Thank You For The Love’, the debut single from new indie rock band; Lashes.

The track starts with a bang, straight into an energetic drum beat with a melodic harmonica lead. I actually really liked the use of harmonica, it definitely grabbed my attention and was super refreshing to hear in a world where cheesy synths are chart music’s main instrument of choice (yawn). These guys are bringing back elements of classic Rock & Roll, with lively, powerful vocals, a strong rhythm section and dynamic, retro-sound guitar. I’m certainly getting Rolling Stones vibes.

‘Thank You For The Love’ has been stuck in my head for the last three days. I love a catchy melody, and these guys have succeeded in writing a great one. I’m also a huge fan of the stripped back middle 8, which leaves me desperately craving the chorus. The guitar solo here is super satisfying, introducing a sweet new melody in preparation for the return of the one you know and love. If you give the track a singular listen, then you’ll probably miss the subtle backing vocals throughout, so stick it on repeat and pay closer attention.

I also want to mention here that I’m pretty sure the production is very good. Now I’m no expert in this field, but after listening several times, I noticed all of the parts (there are many) are heard with clarity and evidently concluded that it’s been finished to a high standard (I’m an expert now).

I think the track is a bit of a ‘showstopper’, and could work at the beginning of a set to grab the audience’s attention or as a finale, allowing individuals to sing along.

By the second chorus, I was singing along. Alone in my car.

Although their single artwork looks somewhat similar to a mug shot, from the sounds of it, Lashes are definitely not mugs (admit that was good). If you want to hear something that will get the Rock & Roll nostalgia flowing, then this is the song for you. I’m incredibly excited to hear what else these guys have to offer, I reckon there’s a hell of a lot more where that came from.

Check out 'Thank You For The Love' here and give them a follow to be ready for their next release.
